Garbage Everywhere

So the latest side effect of the Big Snow is that nobody has had their trash collected for a couple of weeks now. Good news, though, that starting Monday the garbage trucks should be running again. This makes you realize how much a working city depends on the waste getting moved out of the way; otherwise you’re living like Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout.

At my apartment complex, they have a bunch of dumpster islands, fenced enclosures where the trash and recycling are. These fenced areas have gates that can be opened to wheel the dumpsters out and over the the compactor. Last week some time, they plowed about a third of the complex (Not the whole thing, just a third…), and I noticed yesterday that they ended up plowing a considerable amount of the snow into mountains directly in front of the gates of several of these enclosures. Those hills are probably going to be there for another week, and there’s no way they’re getting the garbage out until they’re gone.
